China。Xinjiang。Turpan I 新疆吐魯番地區（一）
We met smoothly our driver of chartered car when we arrived Urumqi airport. His name is Xiao Bao, we followed him to explore Turpan area for 2 days and one night. In Xinjiang, it is difficult to travel without transportations, because its range is huge, far away between sights. In addition, we didn't have enough time in Xinjiang this time, so chartered car was suitable choice for us. How about rental car? Because the local drive licence is necessary if want to drive in mainland China, we gave up this way.
Xiao Bao treated us to Hand pilaf as our first meals in Xinjiang. This is traditional food in middle Asia, usually eat by using hands originally. Nowadays, more and more people change to use spoon, its name "Hand pilaf" is still maintained. This photos was the Hand pilaf of my companion; as a vegetarian, I was happy that there is vegetarian hand pilaf can be chosen.
Started to go toward Turpan after meals. We saw an area full of big wind turbines, it was Dabancheng wind power station, the largest one in Asia. It looked spectacular with so much turbines here. This area was indeed very windy, we even can't stand stably, so definitely a best place to build this huge wind power station.
After Dabancheng, we spend around 2 hours arriving Jiaohe Ruins, 10 km west of Turpan city. This ancient city was built at two thousands years ago, been the capital of Nearer Jushi state, that was one of ancient states of West Regions. Subsequently, it experienced regimes changes for many times, Northern & Southern Dynasties and Tang Dynasty was its heyday, but was destroyed in the war in 14th century. Some buildings, temples, stupa and so on were found by researchers in this ruins. Jiaohe Ruins applied for becoming world heritage in 1994 and 2005 respectively, but failed due to some reasons, e.g. problems of monuments maintenance. Finally, it succeeded in last year (2014).
Walked through ruins, imagined its past prosperity in long long time ago.
We spend 1.5 hours in Jiaohe Ruins, it was sunset around 8pm when we left there. Then went to the Emin Minaret, this is a tower with Islamic style, was built by leader of Turphan during Quing Dynasty, for honoring blessing. The tower can be seen from the main entrance.
It was almost end of today’s trip. On our way to hotel, we saw street pedlars were selling Naan, actually there were many pedlars there, but our driver Xiao Bao suggested the better one was fresh out of the oven, we kept searching it. Finally we found one in the corner of street! We were happy to try it, one of the main local food.
Naan is one of important food for locals. 當地重要食物-烤饢長這樣。
