China。Beijing。Jiankou Great Wall

Great Wall can be divided into many sections, some sections are easy for tourists, some sections maybe keep the original ancient condition. For example, Badaling is one of the easy section, it is earliest part opened to public, the building condition is kept good, and easy to arrive with good public transportation, so Badaling is popular tourist attraction.

I chose to visit the one of original sections of Great Wall called Jiankou, it is so-called wild Great Wall, means it has not been artificially repairs, and keep the ancient situations. Therefore, its weathering is serious, dangerous for visiting and climbing. In addition, the transportation is not very convenient, so there are not many visitors here.

I came to Huairou by bus firstly, then took a black (unofficial) taxi with other two visitors to Great Wall. They were from Europe, their purpose was Mutianyu section actually, so got off earlier than me. After them, I arrived the shuntong rainbow trout culture center, where is one of the entrance to Jiankou Great Wall.

Started to walk to Great Wall!

It should be better to come Jiankou with friends, at least some people can travel together, because it is easy to get lost in the forest. I followed the marks that made by previous climbers, but this path seems not the same one with most visitors usually use. Because I didn’t meet anyone except for a couple who got lost. However, there were some other visitors on that same day, Obviously, we used different paths so didn’t meet each other.

Jiankou was indeed hard to climb, the couple decided to return finally, so I climbed alone (not very good). I spent about 3 hours totally, from shuntong rainbow trout culture center to Great Wall building. However, the originally estimated about one and half hours, so doubled time. The path I walked was indeed for climbers instead of for common visitors…… I even climbed through steep gravel slope in last part of path, then climbed up to the Wall through a gap finally.

When stood on the Wall myself, I understood how great this architecture is. Great Wall stand on the top of mountains, through many mountains and lands, cant imagine how many resources were used for building Great Wall.

Collapsed battlements

When I was on the Wall, found both sides of Wall collapsed, cant walk along the Wall. Therefore, I just sat and enjoyed the beautiful view of surroundings, Jiankou is actually hotspot for photographers. Finally I returned to village with trout center used the same path~ lots of exercise this day.

I missed the last bus when I return to village, fortunately I met a nice owner of agritainment (kind of hostel+restaurant in China) and her guests. She told me that the guests will back to Beijing after dinner, so I got a share ride, thanks them so much
